Our Spireites Football for Life team today entered a 6-a-side football tournament held at Aston Villa alongside teams from Everton, Aston Villa, Derby County and Arsenal amongst the names involved.
The tournament format saw 2 groups of 4 battle for the top 2 places which took them into the Semi Finals.
The Spireites started strongly with a 4-1 victory before 9-1 and 3-0 victories led them to finishing top. A 3-1 win in the semi-final set up a final against a very strong Everton side, the Spireites looking for revenge after a heavy defeat last time we faced Everton in Liverpool.
After a frantic start the 2 evenly matched teams settled into the game, which always looked to be very close, at full time the game ended 2-2 and penalties loomed. As the nerves set in the Spireites, led by the superb Jay Tighe in the net stepped up and won the shootout 3-2.
The Spireites Football for Life team is aimed at adults experiencing a mental health problem. We are a supportive and friendly group who just love to play football. The group also represent Chesterfield FC in a range of different tournaments and competitions.
